My family tells me they think I’m happier than I have ever been. I have met so many good friends here. We play a lot of cards. We have a lot of activities, even a bike parade. I just love this place. It’s my feeling. God put me here when he had the neighbors tree take down my electricity in the ice storm and I moved in three weeks later.

My husband and I moved to the Whispering Creek retirement community 2 1/2 years ago after living in a small lake community of about 30 people in southwest Oklahoma for 15 years. We had worked and lived in Oklahoma City for over 35 years and moved to the country when we retired. We lived on the side of a granite mountain and the tranquility of the area was marred only by the sound of lawn mowers, the semi trucks gearing down as they climbed the granite ridge the highway cut through 2 miles away or the occasional dog barking.
Living in the country had its flaws, though. Maintaining the acreage and home we lived in increased as both it and we aged. The water quality of the groundwater the nearby town supplied the community with was highly mineralized and it took out 4 dishwashers, 2 water heaters and the ice maker in the refrigerator in our home. Ambulance service would take at least 30 minutes to get to your emergency. Fire services were based on volunteers. Police presence depended on the county sheriff or highway patrol. If you had any chronic medical condition, you had to travel at least an hour to a larger city for treatment, if not to Oklahoma City. The nearest town that had groceries, gasoline, churches and other daily items was located 20 miles away, one way. We were getting older and it was time to move elsewhere, back to Oklahoma City.
I began to scout out places to live. We wanted to leave the "joys of homeownership" and live maintenance-free. I visited several retirement communities but kept returning to look at Whispering Creek. I was excited to see the modern appointments Whispering Creek offered--beautiful kitchen and bathroom granite counter tops, tile flooring, a slate shower stall and sleek stainless steel appliances. It was near a city that had a grocery store about 3 miles away, hospital and doctors close at hand and good restaurants! It is the nicest place i have ever lived. I am impressed by the regularly scheduled lawn care and maintenance of your duplex to keep living here pleasant and trouble-free. But most of all, I love the peaceful surroundings at Whispering Creek. I feel secure here and am untroubled by any annoyance you might find in most neighborhoods. It is about as close as I can get to the slow-paced and quiet living in the country that I miss, but in the city.
